Outdoors and things to do

Five Lakes Trailhead: A moderately challenging 4-mile hike leading to a chain of scenic alpine lakes. Tip: Parking at the trailhead is limited in summer; no fee is required, but bring water and snacks.

Palisades Tahoe Aerial Tram: A 1.5-mile aerial tram up the mountain at Palisades Tahoe.

Shirley Lake Trail: A moderately difficult trail that passes waterfalls and granite slabs before reaching Shirley Lake. Tip: In the summer, you can hike another mile to the top of the tram and take the tram down for free.

Deer Park: Popular trails for hiking and biking in Olympic Valley.

Winter

Palisades Tahoe Snow Tubing: Groomed tubing lanes with a conveyor lift back uphill. Tip: Try Disco Tubing on select evenings, with lights, music, and a DJ.

Sunset Happy Hour at Palisades Tahoe: Ride the Aerial Tram to High Camp for drinks, music, and a sunset over Lake Tahoe from 8,200 feet, skier or not. Tip: Offered on select dates, so check the schedule.
